At the Simón Bolívar border crossing south of the city, normally used by thousands, Colombian police opened the metal barricades they had erected as thousands of Venezuelans poured in, hoping to provide passage for Venezuelan supplies. They chanted "freedom" and approached riot police stationed behind transparent shields on the Venezuelan side of the bridge. Minutes later, the first rounds of tear gas fell on the advancing Venezuelans. They escaped. Many people were injured in the attack.
